Enugu State Chapter Celebrates Girls in ICT Day 2025

In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day 2025, the Enugu Chapter of Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) hosted a transformative outreach program at St. Paul’s College, Eke, Enugu State on Friday, 9th May 2025. The event, themed “Empower Their Future“ aimed to equip girls with digital skills, broaden their career horizons, and promote personal growth through engaging, hands-on experiences.

The event opened with inspiring career talks that introduced students to opportunities in STEM and ICT-related professions. The need for personal development was emphasized and strategies for self-awareness, goal setting, and continuous learning were taught.

Health and hygiene also took center stage as facilitators educated the students on oral hygiene, reinforcing that wellness is a vital part of personal and academic success. A cybersecurity session focused on digital safety, addressing the ethics of online behavior and responsible internet use. The students learned about netiquette, cyberbullying prevention, and how to stay secure online.

The event continued with practical IT breakout sessions where students gained hands-on experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, internet usage, and foundational coding. They explored the exciting world of web development and had an introductory session on coding with AI, sparking interest in the future of intelligent systems and their creative applications.

One of the standout moments was a training on making reusable sanitary pads, which combined lessons in sustainability with menstrual health education. To round off the day, the chapter presented thoughtful gifts to the students as a symbol of encouragement and belief in their potential.

Through this impactful initiative, the Enugu Chapter of Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) reaffirmed its commitment to bridging the gender gap in technology, cultivating leadership, and empowering girls to succeed in a digitally driven world.
