What does it look like when you invest in girls and technology?

It looks like Thursday, 23rd April 2026 at Eranova University, Abuja.

The NIWIIT Abuja Chapter hosted its 2026 International Girls in ICT Day celebration and it was a day packed with learning and inspiration.

With over 130 participants in attendance, including female students, teachers, ICT professionals, and stakeholders from across the FCT, the event made one thing clear: the future of Nigeria’s digital economy includes women, starting now.

Prof. Francisca Ogwueleka, State Coordinator, challenged every girl in the room to see technology as a path to transformation and national impact. Engr. Bolaji Adetipe facilitated the icebreaker session that set an energetic tone for the day. Mrs. Oluwatoni Falade then spoke on cybersecurity and online safety, while Mrs. Nkechi Ajaegbo took students through a hands-on AI demonstration using real-world applications. A panel featuring Dr. Vivian Nwaocha, Dr. Vivian Nnamdi, and Dr. Zareefa Mustafa spoke candidly about building careers in Nigeria’s technology sector as women.

Three competition tracks (AI Challenge, Tech Dream Challenge, and Tech Object Challenge) saw schools battle it out for prizes including tablets, Bluetooth speakers, earbuds, and power banks. Winners for the competition are Brookstone International School Jahi, Zuriel Premier Academy, Wumba Apo, Peach-Potters International School, Lugbe, Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Anglican Girls Grammar School, Apo, Peach-Potters International School, Lugbe and G-Injas Private School, Sabo-Lugbe.

Dr. Ronke Bello brought the day to a close with remarks that thanked everyone who made the event a huge success. Kudos to the NIWIIT Abuja Chapter for organising such an impactful event.
